Professor Nicola Maffuli is currently a Professor of Sport and Exercise Medicine at Queen Mary University, London and also works as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Barts and the London Hospital and Newham University Hospital, London.
After qualifying from the University of Napoli, Italy in 1983, Prof Maffulli went on to complete a PhD in 1992. He carried out his medical and surgical training in London and Aberdeen.
Prof Maffulli is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics) and has a special interest in sports surgery; this includes keyhole surgery (arthroscopy) of the knee, foot and ankle, as well as surgery for tendon problems.

A former athlete myself, I focus on the requirements of top and elite athletes to establish with them a treatment plan. I introduce minimally invasive surgical techniques to minimise disruption and optimise speedy recovery.
