Prostate Cancer Awareness Month: Embolisation for prostatic hypertrophy

An emerging treatment for benign prostatic hypertrophy/hyperplasia (BPH) is Prostate Artery Embolisation, a procedure being launched in the UK this April. Today marks the start of the first ever British medical symposium on Prostate Embolisation – The Embolization and Ablation Meeting 2012 in Birmingham.

At this meeting the pre-eminent leaders in interventional radiology will be meeting to present and discuss this new treatment option for the management of BPH. Speakers include totalhealth consultant, Dr Nigel Hacking, who has been renowned for his work in the field of Uterine Artery Embolisation, a minimally invasive treatment for uterine fibroids.

Dr Hacking has been following the results of Prostate Artery Embolisation clinical trials in Brazil and Portugal whereby the groin is punctured and super embolic particles are inserted via a catheter into the prostatic arteries, this has shown an 80% success rate with only minor side effects. He is hoping to begin monitored clinical introductions in the UK this April; if you are interested in taking part please click here to contact Dr Hacking and for more information about this new procedure, please click here.
