GP Refer Professional System - only available to patients via their doctor
The new professional online medical appointments system gprefer in now operational in the UK for private patients.
The information on gprefer has been supplied and approved by the individual medical consultants. The intelligent search is intuitive and starts with the patient's diagnosis - or the need for a confirmed diagnosis. In this way the system provides a choice of appropriate doctors from across all medical specialisms. However, because both the GP and patient want to be sure that the chosen specialist is absolutely the right one, gprefer further positively selects those diagnoses and treatments that the individual consultants sub-specialise in treating.
For example, a search for 'hip replacement' will find all of the consultants who perform this operation, but if the consultant also does knee, ankle and foot surgery they will appear further down the search. Equally, a diagnosis of 'fibroids' will display those gynaecologists and radiologists who only specialise in this form of care at the top of the search result list.
As part of a joint decision making process between GPs and patients, gprefer provides the following search benefits:
- Locality - find specialists by specific hospitals and clinics
- Insured patients - find specialists by specific insurer approved (or self-pay)
- Medical diagnosis - Search relevant consultant(s) by diagnosis and co-morbidity
- Availability - book appointment by real-time availability
- Directly compare consultants to discuss options with patients
- Select a consultant and make an online referral
- Attach a referral letter
- Receive confirmation of the referral and receive update notes
- Link to patient-facing articles for own research and other consultant-led websites
- Integrate electronic records into the practice management system
The GP Refer system is designed by GPs and consultant-led to provide maximum patient safety, whilst harnessing the power of the internet to provide appropriate patient choice.
