Professor Piet JJ Haers is a Consultant Cleft, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and has regular clinics at the Portland Hospital for Women and Children. He is a member of the National Clinical Reference Group for the commissioning of cleft lip and palate services and a faculty member of the Specialist Dental Diploma Course of the FGDP of the Royal College of Surgeons.
He studied medicine and dentistry in Belgium and undertook further training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands. His main surgical interests are facial deformity with cleft lip and palate surgery, orthognathic surgery and facial plastic surgery. He is a member of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the European Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and of the International Academy of Oral and Facial Rehabilitation. He was elected as President-Elect of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in November 2011 and will be President in 2014 – 2015.
