Breast cancer patients who are given subsequent mammographic surveillance and MRI scans have an increased chance of survival than those women who are not given these follow-ups.
The research, funded by the National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment, looked at systematic data from breast surgeons, radiologists and breast cancer registries. It was found that women who are given regular follow-ups for three years are more likely to have any recurrences detected early preventing the on-going growth of secondary tumours and increasing survival rates.
