Haemorrhoids, which are commonly known as piles, are one of the most common perianal conditions. These are enlarged veins along the anal canal often resulting from straining to defaecate and can affect anyone at any age. Haemorrhoids are more common, however, in pregnant women and people between the ages of 45 and 65 years. So what exactly are piles, how can they be prevented and how are they properly treated?
