Today is World Mental Health Day, a well-established campaign to raise awareness of mental illnesses in more than 150 countries. The day is also a fantastic fundraising opportunity both for treatment for the mentally ill but also to invest in preventative measures.
The World Health Organization estimate that more than 450 million people worldwide suffer from a mental disorder, and this number does not include those with lesser mental problems. Mental health can be affected by multiple social, psychological and biological factors meaning that strategies to create positive living conditions which permit healthy lifestyles are beneficial in preventing mental illnesses.
The UK-based Mental Health Foundation is using this day to raise awareness and funds through a Tea & Talk. People across the country are encouraged to invite a group of friends, family or co-workers to have a cup of tea and a chat with a donation to the Mental Health Foundation.
